Description of the Experience
Science may be difficult to teach if the teacher does not start from the students’ experience and then builds on it. As a teacher I have always tried to introduce the new concepts according to the students’ age and their cognitive and emotional capacity. I have avoided using abstractions and I have started from very concrete things deeply rooted in my students’ experience. Teaching my students how to make the best use of their senses, creating opportunities to practice their senses and raising their awareness about the role that our senses play in our life are very important when teaching science. Engaging students in simple experiments has always been a very rewarding experience; experiments are very explicit: they are clear and accessible; they engage students body and soul in the activities and they stir students’ interest in what the teacher is saying. I have started with very simple experiments which highlight basic science concepts and appeal to students: experiments which demonstrate what are soluble and insoluble or solid and liquid substances. I have noticed that all students participate in such activities and they learn a lot: they learn while doing something, following instructions to achieve a task usually within their team.

Dissemination Seminar in Florence

31 October 2015 The seminar has been held in ITIS “A. Meucci” one of the schools involved within Goerudio project activities. Its main aim was to promote the results of the project toward a broad sample of stakeholders even overcrossing the number of people directly involved in the production of project outcomes. This purpose has been totally achieved especially thanks to the participation of students and teachers coming from different schools or from other classes instead of those ones directly involved within the project activities.
