Description of the Experience
I have always believed in the power of learning by doing. That is why I use experiments in teaching my students. Everything becomes observable, visible and clear. They also engage students who are willing to participate and achieve the objectives of their tasks. Everything is shared and is based on the relationship forged between the adults and students. This emotional relationship stimulates the desire to learn and curiosity to know about your environment. It creates a comfort state in which the students feel safe and open to learning. I start with simple experiments which never fail and give students a powerful feeling of satisfaction. When teaching students about the circulation of water and minerals through a plant it is difficult to make them understand that. I remember no matter how hard I tried my students did not understand. It seemed that it was very abstract for them. I felt very frustrated. I realized that I had to help them visualize everything in order to understand how water circulates through a plant. I used the experiment with the white flower and asked them to pour some ink in the flowerpot. You can’t imagine how surprised they were when they saw the flowers turning blue. We then explained what had happened, why the flowers became blue. It was obvious that the roots of plant had sucked water from the soil and carried it to all its main parts. Everybody understood and since then my students have asked me to do an experiment whenever something is too difficult for them to understand.

The experiment is interesting and easier to implement. I think that it would create interest among students in the study of the passage of water and mineral salts in plants in the 7th grade. I do not find its place in the curriculum in biology in Bulgaria from 8 to 10 class. This is why I would not use it in my practice.

Dissemination Seminar in Florence

31 October 2015 The seminar has been held in ITIS “A. Meucci” one of the schools involved within Goerudio project activities. Its main aim was to promote the results of the project toward a broad sample of stakeholders even overcrossing the number of people directly involved in the production of project outcomes. This purpose has been totally achieved especially thanks to the participation of students and teachers coming from different schools or from other classes instead of those ones directly involved within the project activities.
