Description of the Experience
During English lessons some students are always begging to use their iphones to check messages ( so they say, or, in my opinion, to look up some words in the net).So I decided to allow them to use their phones during the test. They had a matching exercise where they had to match phrases of the noun ' account' with their meanings. They were happy till they got their results :20%, 30%, the best result was 40%. The students were absolutely shocked because they believed they could do anything with a click of a mouse or a touch of a screen as the answers of the Internet are the right ones. I made them translate the meanings of the phrases with the help of a real dictionary ( by the way , available in the net) and then do the task once more. As a result, they started to think about the words in sentences, not separate words , and they made a conclusion that their beloved Internet has failed them to get good marks. On the whole, they got the point that you should study any subject first and only then use the internet.

It is a relevant experience of how the use of new technologies can in some cases be counterproductive to the process of learning if no proper use is made. True, there is the belief of our students that everything can be resolved on the network, and believe that everything is on the net is true and accurate. The use of the web also facilitates their work, favoring no effort or interest in doing the activities for yourself, and do not use the internet as a tool that supports the other resources but as the only recourse. Changing these attitudes by making good use of ICT, demonstrating that not always the easiest solution is the best, it is a clear example of how to use critical thinking and Internet appropriately.

Dissemination Seminar in Florence

31 October 2015 The seminar has been held in ITIS “A. Meucci” one of the schools involved within Goerudio project activities. Its main aim was to promote the results of the project toward a broad sample of stakeholders even overcrossing the number of people directly involved in the production of project outcomes. This purpose has been totally achieved especially thanks to the participation of students and teachers coming from different schools or from other classes instead of those ones directly involved within the project activities.
