Description of the Experience
Electrochemistry is one of the numerous problematic subjects for students, but laboratorial activities are very useful and also allow the comprehension of the dreaded redox reactions.
The experience is based on an electrical network with 4 different solutions of water: pure, with NaCl, with HCl and with NaOH. In the case of the pure water the electricity is not conducted unlike the other cases because the compounds are electrolytes and they dissociate completely into the water.
If we connect a light bulb to the electrical network the phenomenon makes clearly.
Increasing the quantity of solute within the solution we can observe the heightening of the luminous intensity of the light bulb. This explains the relevance of the electrolytic solutions.
This experience allows to carry out the reactions in which one element tarnishes while the other reduces due to the transferring of electrons.
This teaching process is not without difficulties, but it makes the key concept understandable by everyone.

This is an interesting practice that allows students to visualize the invisible charged particles involved in the process of illumination of the bulb. Namely the change of light intensity responds to what are the used agents.

Dissemination Seminar in Florence

31 October 2015 The seminar has been held in ITIS “A. Meucci” one of the schools involved within Goerudio project activities. Its main aim was to promote the results of the project toward a broad sample of stakeholders even overcrossing the number of people directly involved in the production of project outcomes. This purpose has been totally achieved especially thanks to the participation of students and teachers coming from different schools or from other classes instead of those ones directly involved within the project activities.
