Description of the initiative
The Archipelago of Mathematics is an innovative project which aims to encourage students of the secondary schools to mathematics and to areas where it plays an important role. This potential can be triggered through their activation, encouraging to learn natural sciences. The goal is to be achieved by pulling students for functioning in the online game "Archipelago of Mathematics", which will be presented in an attractive form of mathematical topics, with the intention of showing the essence and beauty of ideas and mathematical theorems. This will happen when wandering the archipelago, overcoming the obstacles to solving math problems, play a game of mathematical content, learning about the role of mathematics in explaining and understanding the world and its applications in other fields. An important role will be fulfilled as guardians and teachers animators action groups of students using the platform Archipelago. Users will also be co-creators, authors of their own proposals, presenting mathematics. Students in collaboration with teachers will be able to post on the platform of "Archipelago of Mathematics' own ideas.

The final result: Internet platform "Archipelago of Mathematics", consists of 6 islands. Within each of the islands is developed game developing other areas of mathematics. Final product consists of:
1) Full version of the system "the Archipelago of Mathematics".
2) methodological guide for teachers.
More Information
The main product of the Archipelago of Mathematics is online game. The online game has interesting scenario, structure and content. The game is constructed of six islands. Each island presents different aspect of mathematics. Players can choose to take missions or to explore the islands individually. Interesting thing is that students can learn about the biography and work of famous mathematicians.

The drawback is the limited access to online games to schools taking part in the project. The website contains information about many different resources (animations, comic strips), however only few are available through hyperlinks.
Teachers’ Opinion
Strengths: It is well developed project with variety of materials. "Archipelago of Mathematics" is a game that, presents mathematical issues in simple and interesting way. In terms of potential and transferability it is possible to choose this project as additional source. Weaknesses: your school has to be registered to take part In some activities.
Students’ Opinion
Attractive design of the online game. It helps to understand that mathematics is useful in everyday life. The exercises are interesting. It is good way of learning and fun at the same time.
However, system of prizes/rewords could be developed. It could be more interesting to include RPG narrations.

This is very good initiative as students are very eager to play computer games, especially boys. I tried out this game with my students (colouring sets). It was something new to them and fun. The idea is good to attract pupils in maths.

Teacher:
I was impressed by the project according to its name and also by the fact that it is an online game. Not only my students, but overall the young people in their free time are playing different games on their mobile phones, and I, as a teacher, know that the game is one of the most important educational techniques. In one of the classes, which I teach, we tried to start the game with students. They were very interested in it and willing to help, it was not necessary to persuade them. In that, we can reflect the visible motivating ability of the game. I do not know how they would react, if we could start to play and would have to solve math exercises. However, if the game also includes other activities than solving typical mathematical problems, it could be suitable educational technique for leading students to knowledge from different areas of mathematical sciences. I personally read a methodology for the game; it is clear and the colour adds to its attractiveness and arouses interest in reading it. Together with the pupils we are planning to start to play the game and to try it, if possible.

Student:
I helped the teacher to register in the game, we could not run it. It was in Polish, so we have at least played the video and viewed the gallery. It seems that it could be good, the design is nice. We will try to play it with the teacher. Games online are played normally, so this one could be interesting too.

It seems very interesting approach. It will be liked by the students because they adore games. They will have motivation to study formulas in order to travel from island to island.Sorry, I do not know any Polish.I would like to apply them in my lessons.

Dissemination Seminar in Florence

31 October 2015 The seminar has been held in ITIS “A. Meucci” one of the schools involved within Goerudio project activities. Its main aim was to promote the results of the project toward a broad sample of stakeholders even overcrossing the number of people directly involved in the production of project outcomes. This purpose has been totally achieved especially thanks to the participation of students and teachers coming from different schools or from other classes instead of those ones directly involved within the project activities.
