Description of the initiative
The Summer Science Campus, is an initiative of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports and the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT), which have the cooperation of Obra Social "la Caixa" (The social Foundation of the Caixa Bank). This program is committed to promoting scientific vocations among young people and for this reason offers the participants the opportunity to contact directly with the daily work of researchers at the university and in a multicultural environment.
Campuses are aimed at students of 4th ESO and 1st Baccalaureate of Science and Technology who are currently studying in Spanish schools and have a special interest in Science, Technology and Innovation.
Students will join research projects for a week in July, participating in research projects designed and developed by university professors in research departments of 16 Campus of International and Regional Excellence.
In each Campus 4 draft scientific approach to all areas of knowledge (Biology, Biomedicine, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Environment, Robotics, Engineering, etc.) are developed. Each student will participate in a "project of scientific approach." Participants will learn the intricacies of the research work: the scientific method, working techniques, collection and analysis of data. The program also includes visits to museums and technology centers, film forums, conferences, meetings with scientists, disseminators or politicians, furthermore other leisure and sporting completing an attractive offer for the young participants will be available. At the end of the week, the students will make a presentation of the results obtained during their participation in the projects.
The main objective of the program is to promote scientific vocations among young students through direct contact with the daily activities of researchers in a university environment.
This program helps students define their future projection studies and increase interest in Science, Technology and Innovation.

This initiative is a good idea because it allows to encourage scientific vocations among young students, offering participants the opportunity to direct contact with the daily work of researchers at university in a multicultural environment that will help them to define their future studies .
Besides, it is not all work, participants in summer camps enjoy complementary scientific-cultural activities and other entertainment activities.
The only problem is that this iniciative is only a restricted to 1920 Secondary and Baccalaureate students, they access to it after overcoming a selection process.
Teachers’ Opinion
Students really enjoy this scientific experience. They carry out a scientific project approach, they are integrated in a team and teachers and researchers help them to enhance their capabilities in science.
This participation in summer campus offers the possibility of conducting an investigation, allowing students to improve their skills and it can help them to decide on which path to follow in their training and working life.

This summer campus is a great experience where we learn a lot and we have the opportunity to participate in a science project. There are also other enjoying activities like excursions, hiking paths ..
We would emphasize the personal experience that has led this initiative by contact with the University and the world of researchers, meet other students with the same interests and scientific vocations than us with which we will keep in touch ...
After this experience we value more the work of scientists, because they perform a very complex job.

Relevant and real scientific works for high school students in university! Sound very good.
I think is one of the best projects I have seen in the goerudio web page.
Is a project with a good idea and very well done. The life in a college campus is very different to the life in high school and some students can see a wider look of the studies and life. Some of then will find their vocation and, of course, they will learn a lot.
